All too often many magazines often try to resound the message to those who are in the makeup know or just starting out. “Less is more” and “Only apply foundation where you need it” etc, etc…. Although I am a big believer of those lovely makeup rules, and an avid ‘less is more’ kind of girl {tinted moisturizer, concealer, blush.. you get the gist} but lately I have been thinking of following the rules and taking the advice from industry pros and skipping foundations, tinted moisturizers alike and opting for a dash of concealer instead. A perfect idea for those ‘just woke up with great skin days’, or lazy weekends until getting into the comfort of showing more skin- added bonus of allowing skin to take a break and breathe. After doing this for a week or so, I have started to embrace the uber quick routine and natural finish. So with that being said it’s time to Conceal Me Baby…
First things first…. In order to naturally embrace a toned down beauty edit you must begin with a bit of prep work. You know the routine- A good cleansing, a bit of skin toning, followed with moisturizer and sunscreen as needed. For the moisturizer and sunscreen step I have slightly cheated a tad, as coming into rotation lately is Loreal Youth Code BB Skin Illuminator, a hint of glow to the complexion, added moisture, and some SPF 15. I know its cheating, but you have to give a girl some credit for trying- its our secret… And on to the main point of concealing- rounding out my top 3 for coverage:
Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer in Honey – $24USD. Ok so this one is one that I have been coming back to time after time- as it hold a spot in my Holy Grail status of the beauty stash. Dabbed on with my index finger to ensure maximum coverage with the least amount of tugging on that oh so sensitive eye area; it blends under the eyes beautifully. Creamy yet NOT crease-y I also throw a bit of this around the red areas {around the nose, sometimes on the tip of the nose- a la Rudolph, and around the mouth} Perfect for tossing into the bag for touchups later in the days as it blends perfect and has buildable coverage. Hands down my go to conceal for looking rested and flawless.
Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage in SC-5 – $32USD is my go to when I need maximum coverage. Housed in a compact with two blend-able shades to help conceal redness, discoloration, dark circles, you name it- this will cover it. This compact is literally semi- life changing. You can blend the two shades to get your perfect match. One on the more yellow based side to help brighten and match the skins undertones and the other is a more orange based to help disguise darkness and shadows while matching the skins tone; blend together to get your perfect combination or spot treat areas as needed. Perfection in a compact!
Bare Mineral Stroke of Light Eye Brightener in Luminous 3 – $22USD reminds me a bit like YSL Touche Eclat minus the click topped pen action. Once applied from the tube it seems to keeps bags at bay, brighten the whole eye area with a bit of an illuminating tint that helps reduce dark circles instantly, and proven to diminish fine lines in time. This concealer/brightener blends in the skin creamy, and dries perfectly leaving skin with that- I slept for hours look.
So there we have it, cutting down a step in the makeup routine, following some beauty insiders much coveted advice and adding a few extra minutes to the morning snooze fest. All while keeping it pretty natural with a concealer only ‘less is more’ face- I am starting to enjoy this dreamy routine, and extra minutes of snooze…..
