This year is the time to make it the year of YOU! Curious what small things to do this year for yourself? Keep reading to see my top 5 things to do this year for yourself!
REAL TALK: What would you say if I ask; ‘Who you really are?’ I know it might seem a bit of a generalized questions, but in all actuality- Do you actually know your true, authentic self? This question always intrigued me and made me realize how important it is to have a deeper connection with myself. Anyone else?
Everyday we are so busy chasing life’s achievements that we forget building relationships with our own selves. We beat ourselves up for not being perfect or for making mistakes, we are constantly comparing ourselves with others and being hard on ourselves. After the dumpster fire of a year we had last year, and so many things this year being already unknown- this is time that we realize how truly important it is to know ourselves and start working on building this beautiful bond. Because let’s be honest at the end of the day I think we can all start to adapt better habits and start taking time for ourselves.
5 THINGS YOU NEED TO START DOING FOR YOURSELF THIS YEAR
// 1 – MAKE YOURSELF A PRIORITY // Sometimes, we keep pushing ourselves beyond our limits without realizing that as a human, it’s not always possible to do everything. We give a lot of ourselves to others and it seems impossible to take out time for ourselves. So today – Do this today. Make yourself a priority and do something that truly makes you happy. This isn’t an act of selfishness because you need to realize that we cannot pour from an empty cup. Trust me you guys, it is the time to make sure you practice self-care and put yourself first!
// 2 – LEARN TO SAY NO // I always find it difficult to deny something even when I don’t feel like doing it. But guess what, while you’re saying ‘yes’ to the things you don’t truly want to; you’re indirectly telling ‘no’ to other things. We all have limited time and it’s okay to not do everything on our own. Learn to say ‘no’ without feeling guilty about it. This is something I am ACTIVELY always working on and make a major priority this year.
// 3 – LOVE YOURSELF, A LITTLE MORE // Self-love is indeed the most powerful force that will let you value yourself. And when you know your worth, you will reject everything that doesn’t serve you. This year try to spend some time with yourself and know yourself deep by asking the following questions: What are the things that are bothering you? What makes you happy? What are you proud of yourself for?
// 4 – BE GENTLE TO YOURSELF // We have learned a lot about how to be kind to others but are we practicing the same with ourselves? I know for myself I am my harsh critique and at times I really am not so kind to myself. Sound familiar to anyone else? This year try really hard to learn how to be kind to yourself when you don’t reach your goals or make some mistakes. It’s okay to fall behind your daily schedule at times. Do not be hard on yourself for such little things. Life is too short and now is the time to be gentle to yourself. First step- try practicing positive talk is also important because the things you say to yourself matter the most. Talk to yourself in the same way you would talk to your sister or your friend. Be gentle and polite especially when you talk about and to yourself.
// 5 – TREAT YOUR BODY WELL // How much does it cost to eat good food and have regular exercise? Not much, right? And yet we don’t put enough effort into taking care of our body. If I am being honest, the past few years I was super lacking motivation to keep up and my health and fitness. However the best thing to come from being in lockdown from the pandemic was – I found the motivation to get moving, eat better, and overall take care of the body that I had been treating badly the past few year. This year I started January off by doing the Madeline Moves #TighterTogether Challenge and I have to admit – I am OBSESSED! Through this I have a few accountability partners, learned so much about my body and how to properly fuel it. I am sleeping better, eating better, and overall just feeling better. It’s amazing how little changes can really start to make a HUGE change in our overall well being. So if you have been on the fence, lacking motivation to get back into shape. Don’t stress. Instead – go for a quick walk, try to eat a healthy meal, use stairs instead of an elevator, turn on your favorite song and dance your heart out. Small changes can make HUGE strides all while taking care of your body. Always remember, it’s in our hands how to treat ourselves.
With that being said, make this year the year that you put yourself first. We all start from somewhere and this is your time to start treating yourself well.
