Two things I am super obsessed with when it comes to skincare. One, something that will help balance my skin, and two a solid cleansing oil. Anytime I have the option to peruse the skincare aisles at the drugstore for something that will knock my socks off and literally #rockmyworld I am usually left a bit underwhelmed. Although my CeraVe PM Moisturizer is my go to. Now I am not one to showcase items that I am not fond of, especially since in the world of beauty there are soooooooo many I am utterly obsessed with. However after the hype of this product last year, I felt it was time to give into the hype and give it a whirl. And lets just say… I am not a fan. Here’s why…
Now you all know I am obsessed with oils. My skin loves to drink them, I have tested tons of them and I am a super fan, usually. Whether it is a step in the double cleanse or it is to help balance my skin for the day or night, oils are like gold to me. I remember when the Garnier Clean Nourishing Cleansing Oil– $7.99 USD, came out. It was like a hot commodity since drugstores do NOT usually carry such out of the box items or steer away from the usual foaming gel cleansers. So I was on a hunt for the product, never quite found one in stock. That is until the other week, I was at CVS hunting for the Maybelline Nudes Palette when I walked down the skincare aisle- and there it was staring at my in the face. Almost as if it was saying ‘Jamie try me, test me’! I figured what the heck, may as well- in to the basket to be tested it went.
I get it home to realize I am just A-OK without this product in my stash. First things first the texture is slightly runny. Which by all means is fine by me, however it is like super slippery even on dry skin and dry hands. Then when you add water it feels almost as if the product gets worse and leaves a thick like residue on the skin. Now with my usual Noriko Cleansing Facial Oil , Rodial Superfood Steamcell Cleanser or Clinique Cleansing Balm, the oil breaks down everything and helps remove the day and the makeup. This one on the other hand even after followed with another cleanser still left me feeling greasy and slightly dirty. Wipe with a washcloth I still felt my skin wasnt clean- so needless to say this is soooooo NOT for me. I just cant find the time to endlessly wash my face in order to make it feel clean, while stripping it to get this product off. One thing I can say is that it smells quick good though. I just wish it did not under perform for me.
I know that this product is made for dry skin but since I do love a good cleansing oil, I was soooooooo hoping it would love me in return. My normal to combination skin didn’t like it much, however I think if you have super dry skin then this product for sure will be for you. It is super nourishing and the added Macadamia Oil and Jojoba Oil for sure will help dry skin. Maybe during the winter months this might get another whirl, but for now it is remaining unused. I think for now I will stick to my trusty favorites. Sorry Garnier, I do love you but me and this cleansing oil have to break up… for now at least!
Have you tried the Garnier Clean Nourishing Cleansing Oil? If so, what are your thoughts? Did it work for you?

I really love your skin care reviews, and I love your honesty. I am not as hip with oils for the face, and it’s nice to learn what to dabble into/what not to if I want to go beyond Josie Maran Argan Oil, lol!

Too bad it didn’t work for you.

Even though my skin is normal to dry then I think I probably won´t dry this product. For some reason I don´t have much belief in it.
Stephanie Louise Telford says
I bought this but haven’t tried this yet- I’m just hoping it doesn’t break me out!
Brooke @ Blushing Noir says
I have mostly oily skin so I’ll probably steer clear.
Laura says
i have heard nothing but nightmare stories about this! thanks for the heads up!

I thought the cleansing oil was only ok.
Nidia Doherty says
My oily skin will steer clear of this one. I have tried the DHC and the Julep as well as Fusion Color Cosmetics cleansing oils. I like all three, but I think my fave is the Fusion one. It just rinses off so cleanly.
Kimmi @ The Plastic Diaries says
Ohhh that’s not good. It’s actually one of my greatest fears with cleansing oil so I really avoid them.
Citizens of Beauty says
I have only tried one cleansing oil..glad to know I should avoid this one!

Yikes! I actually heard similar stories from a few other bloggers I trust and looks like this is one product to avoid. Garnier missed the mark with this one for sure.

Oh, I couldn’t stand that oil! I used it on my hair and was glad to see it done!

Just my luck–only the high end oils work on my skin. TATCHA has a great one

I generally don’t do drugstore cleansing or oils, it is harsh on my skin. Garnier makes better BB cream and makeup remover wipes. Oh well.
Betzy Carmona says
This probably wouldn’t work on me either

I just signed up for a free sample of the Garnier Oil and have been waiting for it to try. I use coconut oil for everything so I wanted to try. Interesting to know that it was just “eh”. lol
