Every week we will be getting know some pretty kick-ass ladies-if I might say so myself. From blogging about beauty, lifestyle, motherhood and food- these ladies are hands down amazing. So to get things rolling- here is the introduction to- Beauty Behind The Blog: My Newest Addiction. Keep reading to get to know one of my biggest beauty enablers- Laura…
How long have you been blogging? I have been blogging for about 4 years. I started off with an entirely different blog {IPlayWithColors.blogspot.com} but switched because the name didn’t fit me at all. It is still floating out there but unused. When I moved over to My Newest Addiction I gutted the entire blog and haven’t done anything with it since. I was tinkering with the idea of starting a children’s blog though… hmmmmm… Do I smell a future possibility?!?
Tell us a little bit about the Girl Behind My Newest Addiction? I am a 31 year old Navy wife with two children. I have been a beauty addict for the last 10 years or so of my life. I grew up not knowing much about makeup but towards the end of my teens (17+) I started applying a little here and there. I can’t pinpoint when the addiction started but my blog’s name was chosen for a reason! :)
How would you describe your blog? That is a really tough question- The best answer would be an ever-evolving extension of myself. I enjoy showing everyone the latest and greatest but I also just sort of post about whatever is currently interesting me at that moment, whether it be an outfit or a lip balm. Lately you can even find baby goods.
What made you start blogging? I started blogging to keep a diary of sorts. I wanted to record my “Face Of The Days” because I was still learning makeup artistry at that time. I wanted to use my new goodies and create a look and then go back later to see if I really liked it or what and if I did I could remember exactly what I used because it was listed out. I also wanted to see the progression of my “skill” of applying makeup.
What kind of content could readers find over on My Newest Addiction? Goodness… just about anything. A few years ago I would do ramble posts on the weekends where I just talked about whatever but I stopped because I wanted it to be more focussed. I went hardcore beauty for a year or two and now I am starting to extend my content into all of the areas that I have interest in. I have created categories in my menu bar that clearly point out where you can find what topic. So to answer the question: Beauty, Food, Mommy, DIY Crafts, etc.
What inspires you? I find inspiration in the unlikeliest of places honestly. Most of the time I get my good ideas when I am watching a movie or talking to a friend. I have to jot it down quickly so I don’t forget it! I also draw inspiration from other bloggers and even magazines. I love a good challenge too. It is surprising how creating you can be when a friend challenges you to do something!
What are a few tips and tricks you have learned since blogging?
* Stay true to yourself. If you are blogging for others then it wont resonate as genuine. I try to only talk about things I like, I can’t tell you how many things I have bought, hated and never talked about. It isn’t me so I don’t want that on my blog.
* Respond to comments and questions. Not only does it create a better community but it also answers questions that other readers may be interested in hearing.
* Befriend other bloggers. Networking can work wonders!
Okay so super Serious Question- If you were stranded on a deserted island, what are 2 beauty products that you couldn’t live without?Mascara and lip balm. If you want to get specific I would bring Rimmel Scandaleyes Retro Glam mascara (current favorite) and TATCHA lip balm.
Hope you all enjoyed the first Beauty Behind the Blog, as much as I have. I am so excited to share my favorites with you all.
