Let’s talk about something… Going Green. Now if you have been a reader of this here blog for the past two years then you know I have dabbled a lot with the idea of completely going green-all the way from skincare to lifestyle, going green has been something I am extremely intrigued by. A few months ago I decided to start going green in my household to help minimize the chemicals and toxins that are used daily in my life. Going green is something that is a bit complicated at first, and since April is Earth Month there is no better to celebrate the environment then with Easy Tips to Going Green and Embracing the Earth’s #NaturalGoodness…
TIP 1: START WITH TOOTHPASTE
When going green it might seem extremely hard at first, but nowadays there are may options from great brands like Tom’s of Maine. Starting small with something like toothpaste is one of the easiest, quickest ways to starting to go green. My go to toothpaste is Tom’s of Maine Antiplaque & Whitening Peppermint Fluoride Free Toothpaste or Tom’s of Maine Whole Care® Peppermint Fluoride Toothpaste or Tom’s of Maine Whole Care® Spearmint Fluoride Toothpaste. These toothpastes ROCK, seriously they are awesome. The flavor is amazing unlike other toothpaste I have tried before, never once chalky or powdery to taste all while fighting cavities, whitening the teeth naturally, preventing plaque and tartar buildup all while leaving the mouth fresh as can be. If spearmint and peppermint aren’t your flavor of choice they also carry Tom’s of Maine Silly Strawberry™ Fluoride Toothpaste which honesty taste just like actual strawberries and is perfect for the kiddos. I am OBSESSED with this toothpaste, and knowing I am using something natural to ensure dental health is a great feeling.
TIP 2: GO GREEN WITH DEODORANT
Now go green with deodorant I always thought meant be all natural and green always meant never having anything with a bit of protection from sweat. However I finally found a deodorant that doesn’t contain any of the nasty chemicals or irritants that you find in other deodorants. Tom’s of Maine Unisex Long Lasting Apricot Deodorant literally keeps your armpits dry through even the hardest workouts ever. I have a few scents ranging from Lemongrass to Apricot, and hands down I LOVE the way the Apricot smells and my armpits love it to. Even thought it says it is unisex- I won’t be sharing.
TIP 3: GREEN CLEANING
Many bathroom products contain bleach and let’s be honest they smell extremely strong. One thing that I am not a fan of when using bleach-cleaning products besides the fact that they smell strong, is that sometimes they leave a harmful residue behind on the surface. So one thing that I have began to embrace for cleaning is a simple DIY cleaning solution that is made up from: White Vinegar, a few drops of lemon essential oil and a bit of non-castile based dish soap. This solution is amazing and works wonders on counter tops, showers and tubs. The best part is you will never have to worry about it being harmful with any toxins or awful chemicals.
TIP 4: BODY WASH + BODY PRODUCTS
As I am growing older I am learning that I as time goes by I am developing skin allergies to certain products. So going green in the bathtub was important for the sake of my skin, and let me just say since making the switch to a more pure body wash my skin is less prone to rashes or random body outbreaks. Did you know Tom’s of Maine makes body products? I am in love with the Tom’s of Maine Natural Beauty Bar Daily Moisture. This stuff is phenomenal; a simplistic blend of ultra rich Vitamin E this body bar is simply amazing all while NOT containing any artificial or synthetic ingredients.
TIP 5: GET INVOLVED + LEND A HAND
A few years back- more like six years ago- my family and I started to get more involved in the community and began planting a tree every year in honor of Earth Day. What better way to get outside and enjoy nature then by lending a helping hand in your community and planting a tree? With global warming on the rise, planting a tree in your community can help produce oxygen and filter out the pollutant to clean the air. Trees also help preserve water levels in the soil- which if you live in California you know we are lacking it. Not only that but trees help provide shade and sun protection. So what better way to celebrate Earth Day then to start embracing the Earth’s #NaturalGoodness and give back to the environment.
